Zoom-by-Two
Question: I'd like to play full
motion video with a resolution of 640 by 480 (full screen) in
the title I'm developing. Can Indeo® video handle this?
|
Currently, motion video at 640 by 480 can be captured only with specialized (and more expensive) capture cards than the ISVR III; usually, those same cards are required in order to play the video back. The advantage of using Indeo video is that no special video hardware is required for playback. Using the Intel Smart Video Recorder III, Indeo video can be captured only at 1 or 2 frames per second, at 640 by 480. However, most high-end capture cards can capture at 640 by 480, 30 frames per second, into a motion JPEG format which can then be recompressed using Indeo video. An effective alternative to capturing at 640 by 480 is capturing at 320 by 240 and then playing back using Indeo video's zoom-by-two feature. |
Question: What is zoom-by-two?
|
Zoom-by-two is a feature that doubles the size of the video window. Although most window resize requests are handled by Video for Windows*, the Indeo® video codec can double the video frame size with better image quality and performance than Video for Windows. Indeo video Release 3.2 doubles the video window by drawing each pixel twice horizontally and twice vertically. Indeo video interactive supports this method and can also double the window size by horizontal pixel doubling and then drawing a row of black pixels in between each row of image data. Zoom-by-two is a feature that can be handled both faster and with better image quality in systems that incorporate a graphics card with video acceleration such as DCI or Direct Draw. |
